Terry's desire for FA Cup glory
Monday, Mar 06, 2006
John Terry has spoken about his desire to win the FA Cup this season ahead of Chelsea’s sixth-round tie against Newcastle United at the Bridge on March 22.
JT was an unused substitute the last time the Blues won the Cup in 2000 and he told the latest issue of Chelsea Magazine that after picking up the Carling Cup, Premiership and Community Shield trophies last year he would love to play a major part in Chelsea winning the FA Cup this season.
He said: ‘Chelsea have shown by the squads we put out how important the FA Cup and Carling Cup are and it was very disappointing to go out of the Carling Cup this season at home to Charlton.
‘To me the FA Cup was a massive competition growing up, with huge tradition and obviously we’ve got an opportunity. It would be great if we could go all the way.’
The captain also revealed that his strike in the fourth-round replay against Everton in February was the best goal he has ever scored for the club.
‘It was my best, the cleanest strike yet, but not the most important. I certainly wasn’t expecting the ball to come to me, I was expecting Huthy to smash the free-kick into the top corner, but it fell to me and a defender put me under pressure, I managed to have a swing at it and it flew in. The lads all said I was never going to shut up about it.’
